This is the seventh song from none the wiser and the first of two collaborations on this CD with Hugh Lupton. Chris has worked with Hugh, a professional story teller previously and Trespasser and Lark Descending both feature songs they have written together. There are also three full CDs featuring a combination of stories, poetry and music The Homing Stone On Common Ground and Horses and you can find more information on those here.
Chris says, “Hugh Lupton’s lyric is a homage to the ancient state of marriage. Hugh and I are both great fans of the word Husband: both as a noun and as a verb.” It’s a poignant if a little oblique pointer to the tender side of this album once more. A lovely lyric and beautifully played, this is one of Chris’ most achingly tender songs with Neil Harland’s contribution once again outstanding. I believe it’s Martin Butler playing the electric piano in this case.
Also as an extra bonus here is a great recording of the Chris Wood Trio playing a live version of Jerusalem during a sound check before a concert in Cambridge, April 27 2013.
