The Tumbleweed Wanderers hail from Oakland, California and offer a blend of styles they call hair-folk-blues-rock, no danger of being pigeon holed then…genre strait-jackets aside they have a lovely dynamic going on that manages to capture all those styles through subtle transitions in their music as they have done on Worn Down Welcome which begins with a slow acoustic burn before rocketing off with organ driven sixties classic soul. The arrangements are clever and well timed, the sort of music that I imagine will go down a treat when they’re performing live in the Bay Area where they have established a very solid reputation for their eclectic shows.
Since recording their debut full-length album ‘So Long‘ which was produced by John Vanderslice they have been touring hard moving away from the security of the Bay Area to the rest of North America which in turn has opened up opportunities to open for the likes of Angus Stone.
Now in anticipation of their April 26th EP release party at The Independent, Bay Area hair-folkers Tumbleweed Wanderers have released the stunning second single from Worn Down Welcome [EP]. “Troubadour” features Tumbleweed Wanderers’ signature grooves, a combination of folk, soul, and rock’n’roll that blend for a nostalgic love letter to the city of San Francisco.
