We seem to be having a run of bands with ‘owl’ in their name this week so to make up the collective parliament we have another: Wake Owl. The band was initially the solo efforts of Colyn Cameron who currently splits his time between Vancouver and Portland, OR but has also had a spell in our own fair country where he spent two years studying organic agriculture at Emerson College in England, and working on farms throughout the UK as well as Germany, Chile, and Canada.
Those travels and experiences acted as songwriting catalyst: after returning home to British Columbia and spending a brief period playing in other bands, Cameron began creating and recording his own songs as Wake Owl. Now also comprised of multi-instrumentalist Aiden Briscall and additional supporting players.
Here is title track from his four track EP “Wild Country” which although a beautiful introduction to this relatively new talent is by no means typical, check out the likes of Gold (also below) which calls to mind the hallmark sound of some of the UK homegrown Communion artists such as Ben Howard.
Wild Country will be out in the UK on Dirty Hit on April 15th
