Folk Radio UK is delighted to have been chosen as the partner for the launch of the new Chris Wood album, None The Wiser. From Friday the 29th March, Chris will be making a track a week available to listen to via a streaming link and you’ll find those available here. There are nine songs in all and each Friday a new one will be available to listen to. You’ll also be able to pre-order a copy of his new CD via his own website.
Last Year Chris toured the UK supporting Joan Armatrading, playing in 50 cities across the country. He also devoted time to writing and took some of the stories that he’d been told or overheard as they travelled and built the title track around them. His pen-point accuracy captures the mood of the nation.
Chris uses a 1964 Epiphone electric guitar and Cornell amplifier throughout the recording, which is self produced. Joining him are Neil Harland on bass, Justin Mitchell on Hammond, Wurlitzer and flugelhorn and Martin Butler on piano. It’s a unique and very different sound.
The songs are hard hitting, but there are moments of real tenderness too and Chris also shows that with the benefit of wisdom, there are still lessons to learn. Compassion and empathy are never far from the surface, even though anger simmers at injustice and betrayal.
Come back on Friday for the first new song and make a date with each instalment as the album unfolds.
