Russell Swallow and the Wolf are Suffolk boy Russell Swallow and Australian girl Jess Kennedy. They write songs of every day passions, extraordinary moments and unsung heroes- delivered through driven and picked acoustic guitar, mercurial piano, woven vocal harmonies, drums and percussion.
They’re currently working independently, but in the last year they’ve toured Germany, played the Dutch Altersonic Festival, supported Britpop veterans Dodgy, festival favourites Will and the People and one-time Mercury Music Prize nominees Sweet Billy Pilgrim. Their debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last August was awarded with a coveted 5★★★★★ review and an invitation to play in the BBC’s own EdFringe tent.
They’re currently recording their second EP at Guy Chamber’s Sleeper Studios with Oliver Som, who’s recent work includes the Hillsborough charity single.
In the meantime, they self-release two new tracks Charge of The Light Brigade and Africa on April 1st, the latter featuring additional vocals from Becky, Lucy and Emily of Heavenly Records’ Stealing Sheep.
You can catch Russell Swallow and the Wolf on tour across the UK right now, with dates supporting Rachel Sermanni, Gilmore & Roberts and playing alongside the talented Kimberly Anne and Next Big Thing 2013 Award Winner Raevennan Husbandes.
Here’s a short documentary from the duo and a free download of an unreleased song from their first debut EP:
