Approximosey is the debut album from Holland Patent Public Library, the album is as quirky as the band name and is an equally intriguing and delightful find. It was written over the course of 2012 by library founder Ryan Dann whose ideas stemmed from “the idea of a library filled with egomaniacal patents on things that can never be owned”.
Holland Patent Public Library don’t fit any category and swim from one sound to another touching on blues, psychedelia and other genres but never settling long enough to be pinned down. One thing Ryan Dann is however is inventive…the unusual opening of What I’d Give To Drive The Coast Again is very trippy, a bit like finding Fleet Foxes in Laurel Canyon on acid. The void like spaciness of ‘Astronauts and Stuff‘ wouldn’t feel out of place on The Beach Boys Pet Sounds and the clapping fest FriendsMasters tugs at the strings of Akron/Family (circa 2007). He packs a lot into just 6 tracks, a cinematic soundscape of scenes glimpsed from a speeding train window…destination unknown…just kick back, relax and enjoy!

If we can learn anything from pearls it’s that one clam’s poop is another man’s ticket to looking fancy.
The album is available from Bandcamp as a digital download on a ‘name your price’ basis…of course making some financial comittment means artists get more time to be creative or you could purchase a’Library Card’ and be one of many who will receive a handwritten letter that Dann has promised to send daily…find out more on his website: hollandpatentpubliclibrary.com
