I was recenly introdced to the music of Worldly Savages, a project that was formed in Belgrade, Serbia four years ago by Erik Mut (lead vocals/guitar). Erik was actually rasied in Toronto, Canada but it is to Eastern European folk music that he and other members of this collective are drawn. They truly are a trans-cultural project boasting members over the last three years from Canada, Serbia, USA, Ukraine, France, Mexico, Chile, Scotland, Portugal, England, Germany and Russia. They deliver their music with a rip-roaring infectious Gyspy Punk spirit that you just have to give into and enjoy…like it’s your last ever party! Not surprisingly they draw comparisons to the likes of Manhattan’s fabulous Gogol Bordello.
Yula their violinist told me that 2012 had been a very good year for them playing more than 85 concerts in over 14 countries, well we hope 2013 is equally good to them as they prepare to release their new album March Towards The Madness which was recorded in the city of Belgrade, the band’s cultural home. You can hear a promotional track from it below:
The Savage’s have played some of the UK’s best known and popular festivals, including Bestival and Secret Garden Party. The band will continue to play around Europe in 2013, including a tour of Scandinavia in April.
