Blaenavon are a new three-piece from Hampshire who have just announced the release of their debut single A-Side ‘Into the Night’ and B-Side ‘Denim Patches’ for Transgressive imprint paradYse on the 11th March.
Now there’s no getting away from it, these lads are ridiculously talented for their age: Ben Gregory (Vocals. Age16), Frank Wright (Bass. Age17) and Harris McMillan (Drums.Age16)! With influences from Joy Division to Miles Davis their music is all the richer for its sublety offering a vulnerability that displays immense musical maturity.
‘Into the Night’, a song about isolation and loss is a startlingly controlled introduction to Blaenavon, with a poetic fragility and an exciting panache that enthralls and makes for a truly rewarding listen.
There is a stillness and hush to ‘Denim Patches’, which follows the reparation of a relationship, the uplifting-melancholia of Ben’s vocals are absorbing, affecting and mature beyond his years.
The band will play a single launch show at The Buffalo Bar on the 21st February 2013.
