This isn’t a new EP and whilst Gardarene may not ring a bell the members probably will for those of you that love cutting edge English Folk music. They are:
Nick Wyke (Nick Wyke & Becki Driscoll) on fiddle, Matt Norman (Dartmoor stepdance champion) on Mandolin, Jon Dyer (Dyer Cummings) on Flute, Laurel Swift (Gloworms) and Si Paull on percussion who is from a non-folky background but helps add the teeth to this band!
Their EP Volume One: 1694-2011 comprises of tunes from manuscripts of English dance musicians of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Where they differ from many of their English folk peers is they mix them with an all together more modern sound to inject new life into them…to get folks on the dancefloor as the tunes originally intended…here’s a small taster:
