We came across this new artist only recently, Ali Lacey, better known as Novo Amor (Galician: New Love) has just released his Drift EP which was recorded over the summer of 2012 in the ‘heart and hills’ of mid-Wales.
He told us he had left the city in which he had been living for 5 years. “With a lack of direction I moved to my childhood home deep in the countryside of Wales, where I took with me an array of old instruments and microphones.” Ali spent his days song writing and recording until he had put together 7 songs by late summer.
‘Drift’ is Ali’s latest EP which features 2 of those 7 songs.
Fans of Bon Iver or James Vincent McMorrow will love these acoustic folk songs, created in isolation they conjure up images of both fragility and a depth of beauty that were “inspired by cross Atlantic travels of the previous year and the heartache that it would bring.” The remote and isolated welsh setting in which these songs were created can be felt throughout, this is a beautiful EP.
