Big Tree are an indie pop quintet we’ve been recently introduced to. Formed back in 2008 in the Big Apple the band relocated to Berkley CA where they found home amongst the thriving Bay Area music scene. Little EP is their latest offering which has been engineered and produced by Eli Crews (tUnE-yArDs, Nels Cline, Deerhoof, Geographer). The three track EP captures the band in their purest form using live performances, one ten-hour day of tracking, and a reel of two-inch tape. Their transition via the West Coast seems to have been the right move, a natural step to take in the bands evolution which also saw the band grow with the addition of vocalist Anna Ghezzi and drummer Matt Schory.
The track “Time”, according to songwriter McIntyre-Bader, “encompasses the band’s altered perception of time on the road, the nostalgia of building a new home in a new place, and the nervous excitement of not being able to predict what’s next, but knowing it will be okay.”
In addition to the new studio tracks, the digital download of Little EP will include live recordings from Big Tree at San Francisco’s Rickshaw Stop (recorded just 3 days before going into the studio), artwork for each song, and ornately designed sheet music.
