Twelve piece Scottish Folk Fusion outfit Treacherous Orchestra will be delivering their own unique brand of energetic musical mayhem this autumn when they hit the road on their UK tour. They appear at venues throughout the UK starting on the 29th of September.
Following on from a summer of major festival gigs the band now take their high- energy show on the road. Treacherous Orchestra’s array of instruments include fiddles, bagpipes, accordion, banjo, flute, guitars, double bass and drums. They are described as one of the UK’s most exciting and energising live acts.
Among the twelve-strong line-up is accordionist John Somerville. “We’ve had a brilliant summer – the reaction at gigs has been hugely positive.” The band formed in 2008 as a natural amalgamation of instrumentalists who had moved to Glasgow and were playing in the city’s vibrant folk scene. The band members come from all across Scotland, as well as two from Ireland.
“There was a great energy when any of us played together so we made the decision to try and convert that in to a live show” says John. “It’s brilliant to see the crowd react to that; we often have a sea of people dancing. This kind of music has had people dancing for hundreds of years so why stop now? We are excited at the prospect of going on the road, we are due to play some great venues and the atmosphere should be electric.
The band released their debut album “Origins” on UK label Navigator Records earlier this year (read our review here). It was recorded in several studios across Scotland and was the product of two years of hard work. Since the album release Treacherous Orchestra have appeared across the UK and Europe including performances at Celtic Connections, Cambridge Folk Festival, Sidmouth Folk week, Big Tent, Lorient Celtic festival in Brittany and TFF Rudolstadt World music festival in Germany. The tour begins in Perth Concert Hall on the 29th of September and takes in venues in Glasgow, Edinburgh, London and Inverness amongst others.
