The 7-piece Hartlepool based band The Jar Family release their new single today ‘Broken Minded‘ via their own ‘Jar Records’ which you can watch the video for below.
Sounding like a cross between The Waterboys, Dylan and The Pogues the band have been forging a loyal fan base which has been helped along the way by their UK tour support of Alabama 3 as well as opening slots for the likes of Ocean Colour Scene’s Steve Craddock, The Charlatans and Babyshambles, King Charles and Jake Bugg as well a number of festival slots. The raw edged authenticity of their sound which has the feel of belonging to the industrial north east has led to the term ‘industrial folk’ becoming a widely accepted description of their music which I find myself getting drawn further into on each new listen.
The time seems right for plucking a track from their The Jar Family Album and ‘Broken Minded‘ seems as ripe as any fruit to take that plunge with. We hope they get that broader well deserved exposure with this new single. A band to watch out for!
They’ll have a new album out in February 2013
