The fabulous Moulettes who we recently featured in our exclusive series of Field Sessions from this years Purbeck Folk Festival (listen here) are to release their new single ‘Uca’s Dance‘ on 5th November. The track is taken from their new album ‘The Bear’s Revenge‘ (review here) which saw the band welcoming in a series of guests in the form of Ted Dwane (ex-Moulette and Mumford and Sons bass player), the fabulous Liz Green (vocals), Laura Hockenhall (vocals), Rioghnach Connolly (Irish flute and whistle) and Matt Menefee (Banjo player from Cadillac Sky).
Uca’s Dance was conceived by Moulettes’s songwriter Hannah Miller whilst in Bosnia in 2009 where she was a music-workshop leader for the children’s festival Most Mira. Anyone who has met Hannah will vouch for her great storytelling songs which incorporate original folkloric myth-like tales which will captivate the minds of child and adult alike. Uca’s Dance is no exception…taking inspiration from a Romanian fire-dancer called ‘Uca’ whom she improvised music for during the ‘Most Mira’ festival. On this track she creates a fantastical world in which Uca is imprisoned in a circus along with a dancing bear from whom the album takes its name ‘The Bear’s Revenge’. To find out what happens you’ll need to listen to the tale:
Anyone who enjoys these other-worldly stories will be pleased to know that Hannah is working on an illustrated book which extends the universe of her songs.
With the band already clocking up some heavyweight festival performances including End Of The Road, Cambridge Folk and Bestival thay have now announced that they will be supporting The Levellers and The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown this autumn as well as headlining their own shows. Full details are below. For those in London make sure you catch the Tabernacle gig!
