Scottish folk singer Emily Smith whose last release Traiveller’s Joy received great critical acclaim (read our review) is back on the road with a series of tour dates (details below) that will take her to mainland Europe. She is joined by Jamie McClennan with whom she released Adoon Winding Nith as they take in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Some fans will be treated to an added bonus as they meet up with some pals along the way. The Esslingen date on 23rd September will be a double bill with Old Blind Dogs. Emily hints at there being some collaborations in the set as two of the Dogs members (Ali Hutton and Aaron Jones) had previously toured in her band. The Austrian and first two Swiss dates will be a triple bill with fellow Scottish acts Daimh and Anna Massie & Mairearad Green.
Emily returns to Scotland in November for two big dates: Dougie MacLean’s fantastic festival ‘Perthshire Amber’ where she’ll be part of the ‘Dougie MacLean with friends’ show in Perth Concert Hall on 3rd November and the second is a performance in Aberdeen’s Music Hall as a guest performer at Aberdeen Strathspey & Reel Society’s Fiddler’s Rally 2012. “The concert will also feature fiddler Bruce MacGregor who you may know from the band Blazin’ Fiddles or as BBC Radio Scotland’s host of Travelling Folk.”
Plans for a new album are already afoot!
Emily Smith Songbook
Work has now begun on the first Emily Smith songbook which will include all traditional and self penned songs from her albums to date. She stated “this is the first of a series of projects which we are working on for 2013 to mark my ten year anniversary of being a full time folkie. We get a lot of enquiries from fans looking for sheet music and lyrics so I’m pleased to say it’s on its way and will also include notes on the song sources and guidance on performance.”
Release date is scheduled for early 2013, more info soon.
Blas on BBC Alba
Emily recently recorded several songs for a series which will be broadcast on BBC Alba featuring artists from this year’s Blas Festival. The series will start in October, transmission date TBA so keep your eyes peeled for more news on that one.
