We introduced Minnesota based five-piece ‘Trampled by Turtles’ back in April this year. Fresh from their top performance at this year’s Lollapalooza they will be heading to the UK to lay down British roots for a 6-date November tour, including London’s Hoxton Bar & Kitchen November 13th. The tour ties in with the UK release of their sixth album ‘Stars and Satellites‘ which will expose the band to a growing UK and European fan base.
Hailing from Duluth, Minnesota, Trampled By Turtles – Dave Simonett (lead vocals, guitar) Tim Saxhaug (bass, vocals), Dave Carroll (banjo, vocals), Erik Berry (mandolin), Ryan Young (fiddle) – formed in 2004 and have grown organically over the years into a cast-iron musical unit.
They’ve been gathering pace on the road since the release of last album ‘Palomino’ in 2010 – which they took to festivals including Coachella and Telluride Bluegrass – and now call in 5,000-strong crowds back home.
New-fashioned old-time harmonies from a group of hardened multi-instrumentalists, Trampled By Turtles pen genre-bending folk songs about love, life and the everyday, while extolling the virtues of doing it for yourself; try to imagine a punk hoedown Way Out West and you’re halfway there….
Serving up supercharged, rapid-fire banjo romps and delicate, elegiac ditties, they pepper their songs with rich orchestral flourishes and do heartwarming and anguished in equal measure; shooting from the hip as well as from the heart.
