Lindsay Lou & the Flatbellys hail from the state of Michigan where they’ve been honing their bluegrass chops since 2008 but it is their current line-up with the sharp vocal and song writing skills of Lindsay at the helm that the band have been getting the most attention. Their music, whilst steeped in American roots has a contemporary twist that brings brightness and originality to their sound. Familiar threads of swing jazz, pre-war American music and progressive bluegrass are at the core but with this they bring a sophistication to their arrangements that make them so ear catching.
Their new album ‘Release the Shroud‘ highlights the strength of all of their endeavours as well as highlighting the core relationship of Joshua Rilko (one of the band founders) and Lindsay who were married last year. Joshua plays mandolin and adds his vocals to that of Lindsay’s with some beautiful harmonies.
