Acclaimed English folk band Kerfuffle are to reunite to perform music from their acclaimed Midwinter album Lighten The Dark this December. The band, who split in 2010 after launching the careers of some of England’s brightest traditional musicians, will come together for a short run of dates in the weeks before Christmas.
The tour includes homecoming gigs in Loughborough and Chesterfield as well as stops in some of the band’s favourite places, including a return to Shrewsbury, long a ‘home from home’ and the scene of their ‘farewell’ gig at the 2010 Shrewsbury Folk Festival.
Since parting ways, Kerfuffle’s members have toured extensively with other acts. Sam Sweeney is part of folk big band colossus Bellowhead and has toured internationally, recorded at Abbey Road and appeared on Later…with Jools Holland. He recently appeared on Fay Hield and the Hurricane Party‘s new album Orfeo, and is also a member of Jon Boden and the Remnant Kings. Hannah James‘ new vocal trio Lady Maisery released their debut album, a slow-burn success that led to a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nomination and an appearance on Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour. She begins her second tour with the Maddy Prior Trio in September. Jamie Roberts‘ third album with Katriona Gilmore, The Innocent Left, is scheduled for a November release. The album is highly anticipated after the duo’s tour supporting Fairport Convention. Tom Sweeney has taken on the running of the band’s label, RootBeat Records, and overseen the release of albums including Lady Maisery’s debut Weave & Spin and Hannah and Sam’s new release State and Ancientry (read our interview with Hannah & Sam here), launched at a pair of sold-out concerts in London and Sheffield and received to considerable broadsheet acclaim.
