Purchase On and On from our store
Some of you may have already heard of the Canterbury-based quartet Syd Arthur, I only came across them this week for the first time but their first EP ‘Moving World’ was released in 2010. They recently released their début album ‘On and On‘ and on first listen you can hear the strands of late 60’s early 70’s psychedelic rock pioneers that they take inspiration from. Where they really shine is in their ability to blend this with a more contemporary sound, taking inspiration from the likes Wolf People, Black Mountain and Tame Impala, they craft and hone that sound rather than mimic and the results are incredibly rewarding…” they seamlessly mix bucolic, retro reveries, devastating blasts of precision controlled riffing, sweeping folk, fleet-fingered mandolin work and a musical vocabulary that’s as fluently conversant with world music as it is the time signature twists of Soft Machine”.
We love’em!
The band are also well known for their lively sets which to date include sets at Glastonbury and Secret Garden as well as tours across Europe. This year they will be playing Greenman and Smugglers Festival near their local Canterbury. More gig details here.
