West Coast Dub Heads Peaking Lights have unveiled their new video for Beautiful Son taken from their third full length release ‘Lucifer‘. Husband and wife duo Aaron Coyes and Indra Dunis give a psychedelic insight into young parenthood in the video which also features their son, Mikko. “With this video I wanted to create a family portrait made out of fever dreams”, explains director Geremy Jasper. ”Through cosmic loops and strange landscapes we were trying to capture the hallucinatory, floating sensation of young parenthood that the song so sweetly describes. It was perfect that Mikko’s favorite toy on set was unravelling the insides of Aaron & Indra’s cassette tapes.”
The album title of the album does not bear the sinister connotations others give the name: “All of our record titles have come to us in dreams, daydreams and epiphanies.” says Coyes. “Lucifer sat so strong with us. It means ‘Venus, bearer of light’ and is the first sign of the sunrise. There are some major astrological and astronomical events involving Venus in this year of 2012.” Recorded in Brooklyn at Gary’s Electric studio over the course of a month, Peaking Lights consider Lucifer a nocturnal version of their sound. It’s slinkier and full of grooves. “To us this record is about play and playfulness, unconditional love, rhythms and pulses, creation and vibration,” says Coyes. Lucifer is also Peaking Lights’ most ambitious release to date in terms of its approach and scope. Through their studio experiments, the duo has managed to link their musical loves—dub, krautrock, analog electronic dance music, sound collages, pop music—all while maintaining cohesive songs. Lucifer was self-produced and engineered by Al Carlson (Yeasayer, Ford & Lopatin, 0PN).
