Jonathan Wilson must be feeling mighty pleased with himself for coaxing his musical guru Roy Harper out to LA from his home in Ireland to record tracks for a new studio album, his first since The Green Man (2000). Wilson, a long time fan of Harper, is also rumoured to have a tribute album on the go which includes guest artists such as Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy. Roy’s blog doesn’t give anything away about the new album but Wilson spoke to MOJO magazine recently and revealed Roy had been at his own Echo Park Studio which is reknowned for its sound and analogue equipment. Four tracks were recorded and Roy is schedule to return later this year to record more tracks.
If you’re heading to Cambridge Folk Featival this year then don’t miss the MOJO live Q&A with Roy Harper which is scheduled for July 27. Roy and Jonathan Wilson will be performing at this years End of the Road festival so who knows what may happen there….
Meanwhile Jonathan Wilson continues to pay tribute to his other musical heroes, this time to Jerry Garcia when he will be joining Bob Weir, Benmont Tench, Mike Gordon, Neal Casal, Joe Russo & more at TRI Studios for Jerry’s 70th birthday tribute on August 3. The special event will be streamed live for free at www.tristudios.com so put that date in your diary.
