Woodburner started 2 years ago in a closed down pub in Clapton; when two Theos put their heads together and made a pact. One would build a superlative woodburning stove out of recycled materials and install it in the newly stripped down, wooden pub. The other would programme the best in acoustic music from Hackney and beyond, to be performed every Monday right by the fire right through the winter. Thus, Woodburner was born.
Since then Woodburner has taken place every Monday in the most interesting underground spaces Hackney has to offer, including The George, Dalston Boys Club, Hackney Downs Studios and it’s current home The Russet. Over 80 acts have graced the Woodburner stage including This is the Kit, Lail Arad, Melodica, Melody and Me, Cocos Lovers, Gill Landry (Old Crow Medicine Show), and Sam Lee. Woodburner have run stages at Secret Garden Party festival and Vault Festival in London.
On 9th July, Woodburner takes it’s unique, intimate atmosphere and welcoming community vibe to the Southbank Centre for the first time, as part of Priceless London Wonderground Festival. To celebrate they have invited diamond-voiced starlet Lucy Rose to headline the night; it’s a transportative voice with potent and poignant songwriting. Firm Woodburner favourites and house band BARD join forces with South London folk stalwarts Melodica Melody and Me to provide support in a beautiful spiegeltent that holds 600.
