Ellie Rumbold comes across in her biography as a very humble artist declaring she dabbles with the guitar and occasionally sings. That’s admirably polite but for a 16 year old but she has a great talent. On first listen, particulalry on ‘To The Sea’ comparisons to Laura Marling (guitar and singing style) are likely but she has a more fragile sounding voice. After listening to several of her demos over the past year you can hear she has developed a stronger individual style and her guitar playing is gorgeous. If this is a taster of what’s to come with her first EP which she will hopefully be releasing later this year then I’d say we’re in for a treat.
Try and catch her live if you can as she manages to gig regularly in and around London. You can catch her again on at The Book Club (100 Leonard Street, Shoreditch, London) on Sunday, 8 July 2012 at 19:00
