Cahalen Morrison and Eli West are set to return to the UK next month when they will also be taking in a few festivals ahead of the release of their new album, Our lady of The Tall Trees.
When they released their stunning debut album, The Holy Coming of The Storm (read our review) it met with instantaneous reaction on both sides of the Atlantic. Bob Harris invited them to record a session for his BBC Radio 2 show, saying their music was “quite extraordinary”, and Mary Ann Kennedy recorded a studio session for BBC Radio 3’s World on 3 as well.
They created such an impact during their first ever UK tour in 2011 that Celtic Connections gave them a show of their own in Glasgow in January.
Earlier this year when The Saturday Review section of The Times asked Chris Wood to choose his Six of The Best Folk Acts, he included Cahalen and Eli, saying they were “passionate, committed, accomplished, searching and sailing in the sea of their own inheritance”.
BBC Alba filmed and screened a documentary about Cahalen tracing his family roots back to the Island of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides as he went on a musical pilgrimage there to meet distant relatives and visit the croft where his Great Grandfather – a respected Gaelic Bard who had his work published – once lived before emigrating to America.
The duo are back in the UK for appearances at big outdoor events, including Larmer Tree and Summertyne Festival…and unveiling stunning new material from a next album, Our lady of The Tall Trees, to be released soon.
