Here is a taster of a new one hour Nic Jones documentary (still in the making) from Michael Proudfoot who has also made documentaries on Eliza Carthy, Kathryn Tickell and Kate Rusby. There have been requests made for footage of Nic which has been incredibly hard to come by so:
if anyone has old video from the 70s/80s featuring Nic please contact Michael@proudfoot.tv Also if anyone was at the folk gig in Glossop Folk Club in Derbyshire, the night before the accident it would be great to hear from you.
The trailer below gives a great flavour, it explores not just a living legend but his influence on a stream of artists including Bob Dylan and Martin Carthy who credited Nic with his adoption of a ‘lighter guitar playing touch’; other featured artist interviews include young folk singers of today such as Sam Carter who has been deeply inspired by his playing and Anais Mitchell who describes Nic’s guitar playing as ‘wide open…it sort of wraps you up in a cloak’. Interviews are still ongoing, interviews have also taken place with Jim Moray, Chris Wood and poet John Hegley.
Nic also provides interviews and insights into his early aspirations including his desire to be a ‘Hank Marvin’ but not being able to afford an electric guitar. It covers that tragic car accident which stole away his dreams as well as the enduring impression his music has made on generations of musicians.
Michael told us that there has been interest shown in it being televised but he hopes to do a DVD with lots of extras as well.
