Joe Tilston has revealed some unmastered tracks from his forthcoming album ‘Embers‘. After years on the punk scene as a bassist for Random Hand, Embers sees a return to his family English folk roots (Steve Tilston, Martha Tilston, Maggie Boyle) for some balance in his ‘spare time’. If these are anything to go by then we are in for a real treat and I hope this isn’t a spare time venture but a move to a full-time solo career.
Those family root influences and punk ventures combine to offer some high energy, raw and gripping results that will garner a very broad appeal both in and outside the folk circle. A personal favourite is ‘The Railway Children‘, a great post-industrial song seeking solace and freedom from the clock-in clock-out’ daily grime…that frustration and glimer of hope is a prevalent theme, something he shares in common with sister Martha Tilston who provides backing vocals on the album.
