Since Folk Radio UK was launched quietly back in June 2004 we have continually strived to be innovative in how we promote folk music. There have been a few milestones along the way which have helped encourage us forward including last years Guardian newspaper recommendation and Mike Harding’s recent comment on his facebook “IMHO Folk Radio UK is the dogs furry bollix”, yes, that did surprise us.
It’s never been easy but the one thing that we have kept constant is our independence. This has been key throughout, from the commercial free radio broadcast to our decision to run the station and webzine on voluntary donations from listeners who believe in and support what we do. Without that support we would not be here today!
We are now taking this a stage further with the launch of our own Independent Record Store called ‘Frukie Records‘. The store features a great selection of folk music (CDs, DVDs) and, like the radio station, is run from our home in Somerset where all our stock is held and dispatched from.
We will be gradually adding to our stock and will be featuring some very special items over the coming months. We will also be selling releases from independent artists who need help in getting their music out there.
The store, along with voluntary donations from listeners will help us to keep on bringing you new music and supporting the folk artists we feature so please try and support us.
