Limerick born Peter Delaney has a timeless quality to his music, the combination of ukulele and gentle but deeply emotive voice create old sounds that are both fragile and treasured. My first listen was visually comparable to opening an old music box that I’d found hidden in the back of a dusty old antique store. It came as no surprise to hear that he takes inspiration from traditional songs and old folk music.
All the artists that he lists as touring extensively with have featured on Folk Radio UK: A Hawk and a Hacksaw, Phosphorescent, Alasdair Roberts, Alela Diane, Mariee Sioux, Steffen Basho-Junghans, Jozef van Wissem, Sharon Krauss, Thinguma*jigSaw, C Joynes and Cian Nugent, my only regret is that we didn’t discover him sooner to share with you his wonderful music.
Myles O’Reilly of Arbutus Yarns recently shot this film of Peter performing ‘Pariah Chimes’ which is taken from his mini-album Duck Egg Blue which he self-released in 2007. It has since been re-released through Deadslackstring Records in June 2011 and we will be adding a number of tracks to our playlist.
Peter has a new album out soon and he has reveled a number of rough mixes which you can listen to below:
