Dave Pilla hails from Leeds via The Wirral. He has just released a self titled EP which we’ve been really enjoying over the last two days, there is an underlying familiarity to his music and I’m sure he will be compared to many artists such as Jose Gonzalez (‘Take The Boat In Style‘), Fink, James Vincent McMorrow and Benjamin Francis Leftwich. The tracks on the EP have been well selected to show off the spectrum of his music: Lion’s Share is a great indie folk track that has a brightly contrasting uke and chorus to the lyrics and Where Did All The Time Go? has a lamentable guitar intro that sets the emotional level for the lyrics perfectly.
Dave Pilla’s EP is the first release on the rather appropriately titled ‘Heart on Sleeve Records‘, a name we will be hearing a lot of in 2012 I think, both the artist and label sound very promising.
