Efterklang have announced the release of a new album titled ‘Piramida‘ which will be premiered on May 26th 2012 when they will be performing live in the Sydney Opera House together with the Sydney Symphony orchestra. A date for release hasn’t been confirmed other than that it will be later in 2012 on 4AD and Rumraket.
They have been working with the likes of Nils Frahm, Peter Broderick, Earl Harvin and musicians from Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra in putting the album together. They haven’t let too much out of the bag yet other than snippets from a video diary of the work in progress which includes Nils Frahm working away with the cameraman fully engrossed in the whole experience judging by the nodding camera movements.
For the concert:
we have engaged composers Missy Mazzoli (Kronos Quartet, Victoire), Karsten Fundal (Under Byen, Choir of Young Believers) and Daniel Bjarnason (Sigur Rós, Múm) to help our new songs to fully integrate with the Sydney Symphony orchestra, which will be conducted by Matthew Coorey.
We will be performing as a six-piece, augmented by Peter Broderick (piano), Katinka Fogh Vindelev (choir) and Toby Dammit (drums). …founding member Thomas recently left Efterklang and Toby Dammit will be his replacement in Sydney. Toby has played drums for amazing people like Iggy Pop, Rufus Wainwright and many others.
