The Owl Service have a new EP due out on Rif Mountain titled There Used to be a Crown. It contains 4 great covers of the legendary US psych folk band Pearls Before Swine. It was Pearls Before Swine that partly inspired Owl Service founder Steven Collins to form the band 6 years ago.
You only need to listen to Translucent Carriages and compare it to the original (listen below) to grasp the respect they have for the original material…a very fitting tribute from the Owl Service who have an incredible magic and authenticity in their music that transports you back in time. Listen to it in full below:
“Icy female vocals and crystalline electric guitars thread through sinister traditional tunes, recalling Trees’ 1970 classic On the Shore and Fairport Convention’s Liege and Lief.” – Sunday Times
Pearls Before Swine: Translucent Carriages
…for anyone as yet untouched by the genius of Tom Rapp and Pearls Before Swine, I urge you to seek them out.
– Steven Collins (Owl Service)
The EP will be available to order from the Rif Mountain Shop as soon as stock arrives:
