After several years in the making a new compilation of Martyn’s music is due to be released in March 2012. The album ‘AYE’ features some of Martyn’s best loved tunes plus previously unreleased tracks which will have Bennett fans everywhere waiting in eager anticipation.
We paid a tribute to Martyn on Folk Radio UK a few years ago with the help of his mother Margaret Bennett who wrote a wonderful memoir called: It’s Not the Time You Have’: Notes and Memories of Music Making with Martyn Bennett. His music had a big influence on many people, it was groundbreaking in many ways, one of the biggest was exposing a Scottish tradition to a younger generation through innovation and technology…he took it to the dancefloor.
“The unavoidable fact about me as a person is that I feel more a part of the old ways yet make use of the most current technologies and my own generation’s language to express myself in an attempt to answer the question.” Martyn Bennett (February 17, 1971 – January 30, 2005)
