It’s hard to believe that the legendary Dirty Three have been going since 1993, there isn’t another band that sounds like them. The solid core of Warren Ellis (violin), Mick Turner (guitar) and Jim White (drums) break from cover next month with their long awaited album ‘Toward The Low Sun‘ due out on 27th February. Those wanting a taste of what’s to come can listen to the track ‘Rising Below’.
A band that has been so widely influential for so long is expected to forge new ground and explore new ideas, an area that the Dirty Three have never failed in which has given them an increasing relevance in today’s modern music…Warren Ellis:
Dirty Three has always been about the way we play together and feed off each other. We wanted this one to be a return to the more improvised and instinctive approach of the earlier recordings
All three are kept very busy with their own projects: Mick’s Tren Brothers releases and his growing reputation for his visual artwork. Jim’s endless touring with the likes of Cat Power, Bonnie Prince Billy, Nina Nastasia and PJ Harvey. Warren’s ongoing touring with the Bad Seeds and Grinderman as well as soundtracks for such films as The Assassination of Jesse James, one of the most beautiful pieces we’ve played on the station.
Toward The Low Sun is a welcome return as the trio continue on their musical explorations. The album is produced by Casey Rice and Dirty Three and was recorded in Melbourne at Head Gap studios and mixed at Sing Sing.
