Sound it Out is an intimate documentary about the very last surviving vinyl record shop in Teesside, North East England. It’s directed by Jeanie Finlay who grew up three miles from the shop. Apart from some very humourous moments and great characters that could have materialised out of the pages of Nick Hornby’s High Fidelity it also offers viewers a chance to reflect and reminisce on the roll music plays in their lives.
Independent record shops are closing at the rate of three per day and many young people have not even set foot in one. But there are some holding out against the competition which rely on their customers to show loyalty and spread the word. This documentary offers some hope.
There is a campaign to bring the documentary to cinemas across the UK and you can imagine the impact that would have! In order to do so they need to make additional master copies of the film, produce promotional materials and get the film certified by the BBFC.
