Tonight PJ Harvey won the prestigous Mercury Prize for her outstanding album Let England Shake. This was one for the record books as she also won the award back in 2001 for Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea a first double win in the history of the award. When she took to the stage to receive her award she explained
it’s really good to be here this evening, because when I last won 10 years ago I was in Washington DC watching the Pentagon burning from my hotel window.
She also explained why the album Let England Shake was so important:
This album took me a long time to write and was very important to me, and I wanted to make something meaningful, not only for me but for other people, and hopefully something that would last.
Our other favourite was of course King creosote and Jon Hopkins whose performance was without a doubt one of the most emotional of the night!
