The third album from My Brightest Diamond, ‘All Things Will Unwind’ was composed exclusively with the chamber ensemble yMusic (Bon Iver, Antony & the Johnsons, The New York Philharmonic & Rufus Wainwright) and more folk-tinged than much of Shara Worden’s recent work. Having recently returned to Detroit the new album addresses the juxtaposition of life and death, class and race, pantries and politics – as heard through the mesmerising lullaby of a new mother. It’s a really special record from an unique individual and Shara Worden’s voice and arresting live performances have wowed folk from the Sydney Opera House to Lincoln Center to the House of Blues.
An Opera singer who when she moved to New York (via Moscow) frequented the downtown clubs catching the ear of Sufjan Stevens, who quickly called upon her to join his Illinoisemakers band and Shara was soon promoted to ‘head cheerleader’. Sufjan then signed her to his record label – Asthmatic Kitty. Shara also counts Bryce Dessner (The National), Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), David Byrne, Laurie Anderson and The Decemberists amongst fans. After studying composition under Padma Newsome (Clogs, The National), she has also turned out several scores for off-Broadway productions.
