Brendan Trinkle’s latest album release, The Quarry, was recorded during the winter of 2011. He is also currently involved in film projects, most notably ‘A Band of Rogues’ about a group of American musicians who are stuck in Argentina after they are arrested for possession of drugs. Told in eleven chapters, each of which coincides with a track on their album, this story follows their adventures through rehab, across the country of Argentina, and finally into Chile.
The Quarry
“The Quarry” was written over the span of a couple years, in the southeast United States and Argentina. One hears often that beauty is all around, that art imitates life, that real life is stranger than fiction, but I think perhaps many of the words we write aspire toward our ideals. We don’t engage fully the task of culling beauty from life as it is; we describe life as we wish it was. This was an exercise to try to write songs that both truly represent actual experiences and render them in language that is (hopefully) compelling and beautiful.
