Folk Radio UK presents…A Night of Live Music @ The Gallery Cafe, London

Folk Radio UK is launching a string of London based musical events at Bethnal Green’s The Gallery Cafe. The first night on 25th August will feature Sam Brookes, Emily and The Woods and Jason Steel!

Matching their flair for homegrown talent with the intimate environs of the quaint vegetarian cafe venue, which has found itself a hub for the creative interests and outlets of the East End community, Folk Radio UK aim to showcase new and emerging talent on the British folk circuit from the traditional to the experimental.

The launch night on Thursday 25th August will see Samuel Brookes opening proceedings. With his eponymous debut due for release on 15th August, he already has tour dates in support of Ray Davies and Glastonbury appearances behind him. A regular on the London folk scene Brookes has been exposed as a accomplished emerging talent, with mature lyrics and an emotional depth to his songwriting which mark him beyond his young years.

London-based Emily and the Woods returns to the Cafe on the back of partaking in this year’s Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition. Emily was also the first artist to record a session for Folk Radio UK which you can hear here. Her heartfelt folk combines elements of the blues and jazz she grew up listening too. It’s certainly a family affair with musician father Patrick and brother Benedict offering instrumental assistance. The humble sounds of home.

Headlining Folk Radio UK Presents is Yorkshireman Jason Steel of Rifmountain Records with “[a]timeless atmosphere…free from pastiche or reproduction” (fRoots). His multi-instrumental talents see him flit between guitar, banjo and ukelele, effortlessly breathing, new atmospheric life into the Appalacian traditions.
