As part of BRASS 2011 a lively genre busting annual festival held in Durham The Unthanks will unveil their latest collaboration with Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band. This new alliance will premiere at Durham Cathedral on 8th July @ 7:30pm.
The project focuses on the folk songbook of the coal-mining industry, The Unthanks will sing material from their past and current repertoire, with arrangements re-imagined for the massed ranks of ‘Briggus’, as well as material especially written and arranged for this project.
BRASS is a celebration of a musical culture: the result of imaginative collaborations and commissions, constantly pushing the boundaries of what brass music is and can be. This year’s festival boasts more cross-genre collaborations than ever before from folk, opera and dancefloor.
The Unthanks latest release, Last can be heard on Folk Radio UK.
