Pause is the third single from our Emily Barker & The Red Clay Halo’s new album ‘Almanac.’ The song has been selected as the theme tune to The Shadow Line, a major new drama serial created by Hugo Blick for BBC Two.
I wrote this song when back in Bridgetown, Western Australia, in my childhood home. I could hear my parents in the background pottering around the farm. It’s a song about exhaustion, a longing to slow down and the importance of taking time out to be with loved ones. It’s also about the depth of love you can feel for someone.
On Pause, you can hear the angelic harmonies of The Red Clay Halo: Jo Silverston, Anna Jenkins and Gill Sandell. Gill also managed to lay down a pipe organ part at the Royal Festival Hall in just one take despite her having never played the instrument before!
Almanac’s first two singles received enthusiastic radio support at 6 Music, with afternoon presenter Nemone making it her Lunchtime Loves single of the week and live sessions for Cerys Matthews, Gideon Coe and Radio 4’s Loose Ends. The band also paid a recent visit to the BBC studios for a session for Dermot O’Leary’s show on BBC Radio 2 which you can listen to below.
