Middle Brother are a new super group consisiting of none other than John McCauley III of Deer Tick, Matt Vasquez of Delta Spirit and Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes. They played their first unannounced show at a tiny venue during 2010’s SXSW and are now set to release their debut record on March 1st, 2011!
Middle Brother made their first public appearance during 2010’s SXSW under the moniker MG&V. They didn’t know what to expect, having recorded an album and rehearsed only once, who knew what the crowd reaction would be. The show was “rollicking and boisterous that could have fallen apart at any moment and instead centrifuged into melodic and harmonic brilliance.” The collective sense of the artists connected and that musical intuition took over that builds and then feeds on the audience reaction.
According to their biography Goldsmith, McCauley and Vasquez are countering the laptop age that is taking over stages and carrying the torch of traditonal figures such as Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, and Tom Petty.
The forthcoming 12 track album promises to reflect that organic combustion with grounded world-class songs with each member giving 110%. This album will no doubt be a landmark on testing the longevity of this as just a side project. With the willingness and combined goal and a desire to explore and interlope eachother’s ideas who knows how long this may run for.
