We mentioned back in October that the avant-folk duo Arborea were looking for public support through Kickstarter to raise funds for their next project: Red Planet. Buck contacted me yesterday to let me know that they have not only raised enough funds for the CD release but that they will also be releasing it on vinyl.
Arborea have teamed up with the record label Strange Attractors Audio House to get an expanded release of their new album, Red Planet, which will be released on 26 April 2011. The record will also be released as a limited 500 edition LP….with the first 100 being in Translucent Red. We’re big fans of Arborea and had the pleasure of their company last year when they did a quick tour around the UK. Having the opportunity to talk to them at leisure just re-enforced the impression of a couple completely united in their music. This is another exciting step forward on their musical mission.
The music of Arborea is a reflection of their visual imagery that captures the ephemeral beauty of nature. It has translucent qualities with many textures and complex layers, a simple yet complex design like nature. Red Planet reveals glimpses of their world that will capture and invite you in like a warm fire.
As before, Buck and Shanti play all the instruments with the welcome addition of Helena Espvall of Espers who provides the sonorous cello accompaniment on “Spain” and “Arms and Horses”.
This is one album we are really looking forward to hearing in full. But before I finish I’d like to share with you some of their homemade videos.
Dark is the Night (In the Wind)
Ths is Arborea’s arrangement of Robbie Basho’s Blue Crystal Fire from the Robbie Basho tribute album ‘We are all One, In the Sun‘ an album that was curated by Buck Curran.
