When Damien Barber of the Demon Barbers contacted me over a year ago now to tell me about a new concept he was working on involving street dancing and cloggers I was struck by his self-belief and commitment. The Demon Barbers Roadshow was already making a big name so when I saw the video the first show which combined modern and traditional dance forms I was a bit gob-smacked at how much they had in common. The new project titled “Time Gentlemen Please” which will tour in 2011 takes this concept to the brink!
Street Dancing, hip-hop, beat boxing, clogging and morris dancing are not the ingredients you expect to see on stage together. For a start, one set of dancers have lumps of wood on their feet! Damien Barber’s original concept has grown and matured. He believed in what he was doing from day one and the talented musicians and dancers he has on board also hold that faith and have proven that the two forms can not just co-exist on stage but can make an electrifying, gravity defying performance that will stun audiences, both young and old in 2011! The Roadshow has reached its summit!
