The nominees for the Scots Trad Music Awards have recently been announced. It was great to see some familiar names including Edinburgh born Singer guitarist Ewan McLennan in the Up and Coming Artist of The Year who we raved about back in January and who has been busy touring around the country since he released his debut album Rags and Robes earlier this year.
You can get a full list of nominees here along with sound bites, a new addition this year.
Whilst these awards are flown under the Trad banner there is plenty of progressive traditional music within the list such as Rachel Sermanni, The Shee as well as Birds & Beasts (Music by Martyn Bennett and Fraser Fifield) – Mr McFall’s Chamber (Delphian) which we reviewed here. In terms of trad music there are some real gems in there as well. Julie Fowlis is in there, how couldn’t she be…as well as one of my personal favourites, Duncan Chisholm with Canaich that we reviewed here.
