As the nights draw in it’s a welcome respite to be able to experience your Saturday afternoons in an entirely different way! Arctic Circle have produced a series of free midday shows called Daylight Music at Union Chapel, London. They return this weekend (6th Nov) with Evening Chorus, Pengilly’s + Elena Dana & the Pirates.
Evening Chorus
Evening Chorus began in early October 2009 in the bedroom of a terraced house in Cardiff. Two lifelong friends, a chance meeting and a university course-mate, all brought together by a love of tea, biscuits and folk music – decided to combine their own experience and influence and create something new. Early work on songs from previous musical projects gave the band an idea of their sound and potential – based around powerful vocal harmonies and inventive use of the instrumentation available to them.

Pengilly’s
Pengilly’s is the folktronica project of 20 year old Ric Hollingbery and his band. Pengilly’s mix orchestral arrangements with beats; shouts and processed sounds. They play live with strings, brass, laptop, bass and drums.
Ric has released an album with Emmy the Great, and is part of her live band. He has also collaborated with Jeremy Warmsley, and recorded for Corrine Bailey-Rae. Pengilly’s have recently graced the same stages as Emmy the Great, The XX, Cherbourg, The Wave Pictures, and Stornoway.

In May 2008 Elena has made a debut appearance on the US antifolk scene followed by Antifolk Festivals 2008 & 2009 in London and in New York, and in Summer 2009 Elena toured the USA building a following around the globe. Since September 2010 Elena acquired new band members Mardi Williams on percussion and Mary Boeker on ukulele. A new creative collective is now called Elena Dana & the Pirates.
