Long Voyage is an apt name for this Indie Folk band born from the mind of Nicolas Huart, an inveterate traveller who has journeyed well and settled in Leipzig, Germany, a far cry from his native home in Montreal. Like many troubadours before him, travelling can become an essential pre-requisite for putting pen to paper…a desire for greater experiences away from the security of a home. Huart has penned sufficient songs to release to very generous sized EPs: Slow Breakfast EP in 2009 and the follow up Spring Fair EP in 2010 which you can download for free here. Aside from picking up material for his songs his travels must have also influenced his musical influences which, although lumped under the indie-folk banner, have echoes of blues, old-time and roots.
Nicholas huart is accompanied by Marcus Katscher (percussions & back vocals) and Charlotte Rohr (viola & back vocals). There is a keen mind and great depth behind the songs and an honest simplicity to the musical arrangements. Huart has had a lot of time to reflect…and more importantly he has dug deep whilst travelling…proof that it is the journey, not the destination, that matters most.
Spring Fair is an accomplished EP and for those of you lucky enough to be out there, make sure you catch Long Voyage live, you can get the dates from their myspace page here.
