I introduced you to Stornoway back in March when some (PR folk no doubt) were referring to them as the next Mumford and Son. Whilst I don’t hold any comparison, as I basically can’t see one, I can see them growing in similar pop status. They admit to enjoying musical experimentation, this is apparently due to their scientific backgrounds. I admit, that when I read:
‘I Saw You Blink’, the song’s title is percussively transmitted via morse code
it did sound geeky…but I haven’t been brave enough (or geeky enough) to put this to the test. If you have then you may want to share the outcome of your experiment below. Their experimenting will no doubt help them along the way by seperating them from the rest.
The band have just posted their latest video online, a promo for the track ‘Watching Birds’, ahead of the track’s release on August 23. In the words of 4AD, the home of many a respected artist:
Directed by James Caddick (Warp Films) and filmed in London’s Tufnell Park Dome, the band bring the emerging sport of Chess Boxing to the public’s attention. Yes, it does exist. Band members Brian and Ollie slog it out as Notorious PhD and Steadmuffin, while Jon and Robert officiate proceedings…
Speaking about it’s filming, Brian says… “Obviously at the end of the day, the lads done well, but at the end of the day, it’s a game of two halves and one of us was clearly the stronger lad. It was like ‘float like a moth, sting like a nettle.’ D’you know what I mean?”
They certainly have variety on their side, the album is great and Zorbing is catchy, or is it just me? [audio:http://promo.4ad.com/stornoway/zorbing.mp3|titles=Zorbing|artists=Stornoway]
