Many of you will be aware that Mumford and Sons and Laura Marling visited India in December 2009 to share and create music with Rajasthani musicians.
There is no doubt that such a trip and musical experience will leave a lasting impression; whether it’s the experience of a new culture, acceptance as fellow musicians or the creative energy gained from such a collaboration, this is a journey that will have lasting memories. Rajasthan is in northwest India and is a very culturally rich area with highly cultivated classical music and dance with its own distinct style. The musical convergence of two cultures is an exciting one that can either work well or fail miserably. Needless to say, it was well removed from anywhere Mumford and Sons and Laura Marling had performed before.
This film by Fred and Nick captures some of that magic.
Mumford & Sons, Laura Marling & Dharohar Project – EP is now available from itunes, it features 4 songs, including collaborative re-workings of Mumford & Sons’ song ‘To Darkness’, and Laura Marling’s ‘Devil’s Spoke’.
It is an incredibly powerful and moving EP unlike any I’ve heard before. It was a daring undertaking and they pull it off incredibly well. It has a strong eastern feel that Mumford and Sons and Laura Marling slip into with great ease and celebration.
