We have three exclusive acoustic tracks on offer today from Brighton based Jake Beattie who will be a newcomer to most of you. He has an unmistakeable voice, perfect for etching out his powerful and poignant tales. His voice has both a warmth and raw timbre that can carry both powerful and emotive whispered delivery. White Heat shows this off to its fullest on the tracks on offer below. His lyrics bring to mind the conviction of a young Dylan in his prime. He has a keen eye for the undercurrent of society, as a well a crafted penmanship to paint them into words. His pen is certainly mightier than any sword, when he sings “are we really worth fighting for” on White Heat, you know he means it from the bottom of his very soul, beautiful!
White Heat
On a cold Friday night on the outskirts of town
where the cameras don’t see and the alarms never sound
sacred men swim in this sea full of clowns
the whitest man wins, the darker one drowns
waiting in the wings with his logger and his rings
the local boy who plans to go and burn the viceroy
Oh, what did you do wrong, in this unholy war
Oh, what did you do wrong, are we really worth fighting for, fighting for…

“We’re pleased to announce the addition of Brighton-based singer-songwriter Jake Beattie to the line-up. This is a man with a voice to make Marcus Mumford look over his shoulder in a blind panic. Fact.”
– Lazy Brighton
“Opening up for us is Jake Beattie, the fantastic Jake Beattie, a true lyristist, puts most who fancy themselves a guitarist to shame!”
– Communion
“A working class hero in the vein of a sober Shane MacGowan with a touch for melancholy and a voice that can pierce hearts from a dozen paces.”
– Club Ugly/Tuckshop Radio
“A Brighton lad with some cracking tunes, he has the energy and freneticism of Kid Harpoon and the peppy lyrical charm of early Dylan. Don’t miss him.”
