We are very pleased to announce that Folk Radio UK is to be a media sponsor for the 12th Open House Festival in Belfast this year. This is an exciting opportunity for us to be involved with the festival which has been a winner year on year. We’ll be heading over to Belfast in September to cover the festival as well as offer you all some great exclusives. We’ll be providing updates about the line-up and more along the way.
The 12th annual Open House Festival takes place from 7th – 12th September 2010, with music gigs at venues throughout the arts & cultural flavoured Cathedral Quarter.
The six-day event will see more than 50 acts take to the stage, including established international artists and local performers. The main festival venue will be the new 2,000 capacity, fully dressed and blacked out festival marquee in Custom House Square, which replaces last year’s twin marquees. This is the biggest music marquee ever to be erected on the site.
The latest news is that the world’s best loved blues singin’ hobo, Seasick Steve, will be making a triumphant return to headline the closing night at the Open House Festival marquee on Sunday 12th September.
This will be his biggest ever Belfast show, and a welcome return to the festival where he played his debut solo shows in 2005, and which he credits as ‘probably the reason I’m playing music… if I hadn’t done that gig in Belfast, I don’t think I’d be playing now.”
Open House Festival are now offering a limited number of “Early Bird Tickets” for the Seasick Steve show at £30 a ticket. Normal ticket price is £35. Tickets are now available online from openhousefestival.com
In addition to this latest announcement, Chicago based Wilco will headline the marquee on Friday 10th September, with New York folk rocker, The Felice Brothers as main support. This will be a Belfast debut and an all Ireland exclusive for both bands.
New for 2010 is their recession-friendly booking policy – no booking fees, no transaction charges and no hidden costs.
Other artists confirmed for the festival so far include Old Crow Medicine Show, The Low Anthem, AA Bondy and Dr. Dog.
Show details for these artists and more will be released shortly.
